Who We Are

Mohajir Academy is a non-profit online school devoted to providing high-quality online and virtual learning, and skill-building training programs to Afghan refugees, migrants, and girls in Afghanistan and Iran who have been excluded from formal schooling. Mohajir Academy envisions a community where migrants, refugees, and girls are empowered through knowledge, critical thinking, leadership, practical skills, and cultural awareness—fostering lifelong learning and nurturing responsible, engaged citizens in an interconnected world.

Mohajir Academy School was launched in 2023 in response to the Taliban’s ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan. In addition to addressing this urgent need, the Academy is dedicated to serving Afghan refugees and migrants residing in Iran who are unable to attend public schools due to the lack of identification documents, legal restrictions, or financial constraints. The term Mohajir—derived from Persian and Arabic—means “immigrant or refugee.” Mohajir Academy is also known by its abbreviation, (MA).

With the Taliban’s return to power on August 15, 2021, Afghan girls have been prohibited from pursuing education beyond the sixth grade across Afghanistan. According to UNESCO’s 2023 report, this ban has deprived 1.1 million girls and young women of access to formal schooling and education. In total, UNESCO estimates that 80% of Afghan girls and young women of school age—approximately 2.5 million—are now out of school, while nearly 30% of girls in the country have never had the opportunity to attend primary school.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower underserved and marginalized communities through accessible, inclusive, and high-quality education and training, fostering both personal growth and social development. Mohajir Academy is committed to bridging educational gaps for Afghan refugees, migrants, and girls by offering a comprehensive online and virtual curriculum that nurtures academic excellence, leadership, critical thinking, and socio-emotional skills. We are dedicated to creating a supportive learning environment that honors cultural diversity and inspires a lifelong love of learning—locally, nationally, and globally. With a focus on accessibility, cultural awareness, and gender inclusivity, we provide education and training to Afghan refugees, migrants, and girls in Afghanistan and Iran, empowering them to achieve their academic, personal leadership, and social potential.

Our Vision

Our vision is to help build a world where every refugee, child, and girl has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. We aspire to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for lasting change—transforming lives through education and fostering a society rooted in equality, respect, and cultural awareness. Mohajir Academy seeks to advance literacy, critical thinking, leadership, and essential life skills through accessible and inclusive learning opportunities. By harnessing the power of online and virtual education, we aim to create a supportive, engaging, and dynamic learning environment that nurtures the unique potential of every student. Our ultimate goal is to cultivate a generation of educated, confident, and empowered individuals who will contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world beyond.

Our Focus

The primary focus of Mohajir Academy is to provide high-quality online and virtual education to promote knowledge and opportunity for underprivileged, vulnerable, and marginalized individuals who have been deprived of learning due to displacement from war, armed conflict, insecurity, discrimination, legal restrictions, or the lack of immigration documents. Our mission particularly serves refugees and girls in Afghanistan and Iran, promoting knowledge, opportunity, and empowerment through education. Mohajir Academy operates as a private, non-profit online school, dedicated solely to advancing education and fostering empowerment through learning.

Our Values

Transformation and Integrity

We believe in the transformative power of education to change lives and strengthen communities. In all our endeavors, we uphold honesty, transparency, and accountability, ensuring that our work remains true to our mission and those we serve.

Diversity and Empowerment

We honor and celebrate the diversity of our students, partners, educators, colleagues, and communities, fostering an environment where every voice is valued. We empower our students—especially girls—to take ownership of their education and future, using learning as a pathway to a better life.

Respect and Innovation

We treat every individual with respect and dignity, recognizing and valuing their unique perspectives and experiences. We embrace innovation in teaching and learning, constantly seeking new ways to improve, adapt, and meet the evolving needs of our students.

Equality and Gender Equity

We champion equality and reject all forms of discrimination in our programs and initiatives. We advocate for gender equity, ensuring that girls, women, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable or marginalized individuals have equal access to education and opportunities to thrive.

Online and Virtual Learning

We harness cutting-edge educational technologies and digital platforms to create an interactive, engaging, and inclusive online learning environment accessible to all enrolled students and learners. In addition, in some rural and urban areas of Afghanistan, we discreetly conduct in-person training for girls and women in safe, concealed locations, away from the scrutiny of the Taliban. These educational initiatives encompass a diverse range of subjects, including English language, computer science, storytelling, creative writing, journalism, painting, design, literacy, first aid, hygiene, translation, editing, and more—empowering learners with both knowledge and practical skills.

Voluntary Instructors and Partners

We warmly welcome dedicated, skilled, and passionate volunteer educators and partners from around the world who share our commitment to transforming the educational journeys of our students and learners. We also embrace partnerships and collaborations that build strategic alliances in education—working with governments, NGOs, educational institutions, universities, technology companies, and committed individuals. Through these collaborations, we aim to strengthen our programs, share resources, and expand our reach, making a lasting impact at local, national, and international levels.

Funding and Transparency

Mohajir Academy is funded through donations, grants, and partnerships with local, national, and international organizations, universities, institutions, communities, and individual donors committed to advancing education for Afghan refugees, children, and girls in Afghanistan and Iran. We are steadfast in our commitment to transparency—upholding the highest standards in our operations, financial practices, and communications—to build and maintain the trust of our supporters, partners, and sponsors.
